Will Aemond’s Actions Lead To Full-Out War With Rhaenyra?

Being a Targaryen sucks. Westeros is probably worse off with Aegon II on the throne. Though, Rhaenyra might not be much better, especially after the death of her second son, Lucaerys. After learning from her uncle-husband Daemon that Luke never returned from Storm’s End, the Black Queen is now out for revenge against the greens that took her child from her. What adds to this mess is that Aemond is the cause of the boy’s death.

Unlike his book counterpart, Aemond is savage but all he wanted to do is mess with his nephew. He didn’t actually want him dead. After being picked on as a child by Aegon, Luke and Jacaerys for not having a dragon, Aemond called his nephews bastards and lost an eye. Yeah, it’s horrible being a child of King Viserys I Targarygen.

The Season One finale was a massive episode for Rhaenyra. She learns from Rhaenys that her father was dead and then she goes into premature labour, losing her and Daemon’s only daughter, Visenya to stillbirth. Then, while she is mourning her father and daughter, the Black Queen learns of Luke’s death. However, the news comes at the end of the episode, so it’s unclear if she was told if it was Aemond that caused her son’s demise.

That’s what we wanted to talk about here. So, will Aemond face his sister’s wrath? We’d have to say, ‘yes’ he will as he’ll likely be guilt-stricken for what happened. His book counterpart wouldn’t feel this way. What’s more, his mother, Alicent, will probably rule Luke’s death as an accident, which will only push Rhaenyra and Daemon to get even with the greens even more.

Alicent Doesn’t Know Loss Like Rhaenyra

Alicent hasn’t had to lose a child, at least, not yet. The last loss she suffered was the death of her mother when she was a child. In the books, Helaena goes psycho after one of her children is murdered and she commits suicide sometime later. Aemond is killed by Daemon. Aegon also perished during the Dance of the Dragons and none of Aegon’s children with Helaena survived into adulthood.

We can all thank Otto Hightower for beginning the Dance of the Dragons. When Alicent loses one of her children, she will understand what it means and how she isn’t the superior mother. Hopefully, we see something along those lines as it will level the playing field between her and Rhaenyra to a degree. Though, the green queen might not be too appreciative of Daemon killing Aemond if this does happen on the show.

Finally, we end this post with one more point. Early in the season, Viserys tells Rhaenyra that the people of Westeros see House Targaryen as gods as they control dragons. However, the death of Luke and Arraxes at the jaws of Vhagar shows that Targaryens are not gods. Dragons will do what they want as they are still apex predators who allow humans to ride them.
