A Wonder Girl Series Is Coming To The CW But It Won’t Be Donna Troy Or Cassie Sandsmark

Yara

Yara Flor is headed to The CW we hope.

The future of the Arrowverse is female. In recent years, The CW has placed faith in the female heroes of DC Comics. We’ve had a few female-led superhero shows before. But – fingers crossed – next year, we’ll get a show based around a member of the Wonder family. Now, we’re not getting a series with the usual suspects; Diana Prince, Donna Troy, or Cassie Sandsmark. This new addition is Yara Flor, the first Latina Wonder Woman, according to David Craig of Radio Times.

Unlike her fellow Wonders, Yara is a new character who hasn’t yet debuted in DC Comics. She is due to make her debut, as we mentioned in the 2021 comic series, Future State.

The origin story for Yara is a callback to the new backstory for Diana. Flor is the daughter of a Brazilian River God and an Amazon. Prince is the daughter of an Amazon and a Greek God in the new continuity.

Yara And Her Latina Roots Will Be A First For The CW And The Arrowverse

Yara will be a superhero trailblazer upon her debut. Furthermore, her first screen appearance will mark a massive milestone for The CW. She’ll be the first Latina character in the Arrowverse to lead a series.

In recent years, we’ve gotten LGBT representation in female characters such as Sara Lance, Nia Nal, and Alex Danvers. We’ve also received the first female gay lead in a superhero series with Ruby Rose’s portrayal of Kate Kane.

We’ve had characters who have had a change of ethnicity too. This includes Iris West-Allen who is traditionally white in the comics but is depicted as African-American in The Flash. The same applies to James Olsen in Supergirl.

With the arrival of Yara Flor, this will be massive jump forward for the Latina community. Currently, the only Latina character on television at the moment is Yolanda Montez, the second Wildcat on Stargirl.

Will The Series Go Ahead? How Will The Series Connect To The Overrall Arrowverse?

While the Wonder Girl series has only just been announced, The CW would be crazy to pass. With COVID-19, it’s possible the show might just be greenlit the way Superman & Lois was.

At the moment, it is unclear how Wonder Girl will fit into the Arrowverse. Given Yara’s existence in the Future State comics series which place in 2050, it’s unclear how this will factor into the show. Her origin how she became Wonder Woman in the comics may be different to the show.

The situation may be similar to the Ryan Wilder comic issue where the characters differ. For those wondering, the character was introduced in the comics just months before the second season is due out.

Yara mightn’t reside on Earth-Prime which is where the large bulk of the Arrowverse is set. The same applies to Stargirl which occurs on the new version of Earth-2 since the multiverse reset during Crisis on Infinite EarthsWonder Girl may take place on a futuristic version of Earth. Perhaps this is Earth-3, the original home of the Jay Garrick version of the Flash in The Flash.

How Can There Be Two Versions Of Wonder Girl When There Is One In Titans?

It’s true when they say that DC is funny about how many versions of a character can be in a form of live-action. However, there are a few small exceptions such as Batman and Superman both having currently minor roles in the Arrowverse while they’re big staples in the DCEU.

As we know, the DCEU exists on a different Earth that makes up the DC live-action multiverse given that Ezra Miller popped up in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Going over to Titans, it should be pointed out that this series takes place on Earth-9, not Earth-Prime.

Depending on where in the multiverse Yara Flor will exist as Wonder Girl, it’s possible for her and Donna Troy who is the Earth-9 Wonder Girl to exist at the same time. Yeah, we know Donna is currently dead but that doesn’t mean much in a comic property.

Given that Wonder Girl was commissioned by The CW and not HBO Max except for its streaming rights, the show will not take place on Earth-9, the home of Titans or Earth-21 which is where Doom Patrol takes place. For all we know, it’s possible that it may take place on Earth-2 with Stargirl.

Given that Donna is the Earth-9 Wonder Girl, there can be as many versions of the hero as they like, as long as they don’t all exist in the one place. Sure, it would be cool if Cassie Sandsmark showed up on Titans, but at the moment it’s a pipe dream.

We will update you all when we have more information.
