An original character for the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, Astrid Hofferson starts her journey as a Viking warrior-in-training before she becomes caught up in Hiccup’s crazy adventures with Toothless.
By the end of the third film, she marries Hiccup, becoming the Chieftess of the Hooligan Tribe and the mother of his two children, daughter Zephyr and son, Nuffink. She also rides a Deadly Nadder she names Stormfly.

Astrid Starts As Hiccup’s Rival
Despite the romantic turn of their relationship, Astrid and Hiccup didn’t start on the best of terms. Like all the teens, Astrid saw Hiccup as a nobody despite being Stoick’s son and the future chief of Berk. However, she realises something’s not adding up when he suddenly becomes good at disarming dragons.
Frustrated and jealous that Hiccup was beating her at everything, Astrid decides to follow him what she discovers shocks her. The Night Fury that Hiccup shot down is still alive, and they’ve become best buds.
Thinking the dragon is about to attack Hiccup, Astrid tries to shield him only to be told she scared the dragon. Hiccup introduces Astrid to Toothless, but the dragon wants none of it.
Toothless vs. Astrid And Backing Hiccup
Like with Hiccup, Astrid didn’t initially get along with Toothless, either. He tries to kill her multiple times before realising that she’s Hiccup’s friend and won’t tell anyone about him. However, that doesn’t last very long, especially after Toothless takes the two humans to the den of the Alpha dragon.
When Hiccup is scheduled to kill a dragon in the arena, he refuses. Before he goes out into the arena, Astrid backs his decision to show their fellow Berkians that dragons aren’t all bad and can be tamed.
After Toothless is captured, Astrid helps Hiccup convince the other kids to help them. She then tames a Deady Nadder she later names Stormfly.
