The State Visit to welcome the President and First Lady of the Republic of South Korea brought a welcome surprise. The former Kate Middleton, Catherine, the Princess of Wales, got to go into the tiaras a bit more by wearing a piece that hasn’t been seen in public since the 1930s.
In this post, we’ll explore the tiaras worn (so far) by Catherine, the Princess of Wales (aka the former Kate Middleton).
The Cartier Halo
Catherine’s tiara debut was on her wedding day on April 29 2011, when she married Prince William. This was the only time the Princess of Wales has ever worn the piece.
The Carter Halo tiara has been worn by various royal women over the years including;
- The Queen Mother
- Princess Margaret
- Princess Anne, Princess Royal
The late Queen Elizabeth II was gifted the tiara on her 18th birthday, but it is unclear whether she wore it.
This piece was initially gifted to The Queen Mother in 1936 by her husband, King George VI. She didn’t wear it that often, but her youngest daughter, Princess Margaret, and her granddaughter, Princess Anne, have both worn it.
Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot
Of all Kate Middleton’s tiaras, the Queen Mary’s Lovers Knot is probably the most iconic, as it was also worn by her late mother-in-law, Princess Diana. It is often confused with the Cambridge Lovers Knot, which is a similar design.
It was created by Garrard at the request of Queen Mary in 1913 to be a replica of the Cambridge Lovers Knot.
Royal ladies who have worn this tiara include:
- Queen Mary
- Queen Elizabeth II
- Princess Diana
The tiara was given to Princess Diana on a long-term loan and was given back to Buckingham Palace upon her divorce from Prince Charles (now the King) and her death.
The Lotus Flower
Of all the tiaras on this list for Kate Middleton, this next one has never been worn by the late Queen Elizabeth II. Though it has been worn by her sister’s female line. The Lotus Flower tiara was created from a necklace gifted to the Queen Mother as a wedding present.
The tiara has been worn by:
- The Queen Mother
- Princess Margaret
- Serena Armstrong-Jones
Catherine has worn the Lotus Flower a few times, but the most notable wearer is Princess Margaret.
Strathmore Rose
Finally, we get to the Strathmore Rose, a new tiara for Kate. This one was a bit of a surprise, as it had been said, according to Royal Fashion News, that it was too delicate to be worn too often. The Queen Mother wore it, not even a handful of times. She wore it in a famous portrait and at least one other time and that’s it.
However, it may not be as delicate as Catherine wears it here. The last time it was worn was in the 1930s.
