The Letizia Affair: Did The Queen Of Spain Cheat On King Felipe?

Letizia affair

The Spanish monarchy cannot seem to rid itself of affair rumours. We all know the fallout of King Juan Carlos’ affair cost him the throne of Spain, which then went to his son, Felipe. However, it’s not the current monarch in the middle of speculation time. It’s his wife, Queen Letizia that affair rumours have been leveled at. To make it more juicy, the allegations come from her former brother-in-law Jaime del Burgo.

Until now, Letizia has been scandal-free. Jaime del Burgo, who was once married to her sister and, according to Society Rag, Tatler, the Queen of Spain, allegedly had been having an affair with del Burgo before her marriage to the now-King Felipe (then Prince Felipe) and in the early years of the union.

Shockwaves have rung out throughout Spain as Jaime del Burgo has received death threats. Many people see the allegations as him violating his former sister-in-law’s privacy. Also, to make it even more scandalous, he is a longtime friend of Letizia. Moreover, this makes the affair rumour even more juicy.

Jaime’s resume is up for debate. People are left to decide whether his activities are weird, amusing or just impressive, as he’s done an array of things. Given what is on his website, it would appear he loves fiction as he was a playwright. Could it be possible that, in his mind, he had an affair with Letizia?

For those who don’t know, Queen Letizia was a journalist before she married King Felipe. They met when she was covering an oil spill, and he was on a royal visit to the disaster zone.

Letizia and Jaime, meanwhile, allegedly met in 2000 when he was nothing more than a politician’s son. They dated before Letizia became involved with the then-Prince Felipe and married him in 2004.

According to Jaime, he was about to propose when Letizia became involved with Felipe. Letizia told del Burgo that Felipe was a mysterious ‘diplomat’ and she would have to leave her career if she wanted to be with him. He alleges he had dinner with the then-future in 2004, the night before she married Felipe, in which she allegedly told him [del Burgo] to “never leave me.” He claims that Letizia officially ended the relationship in 2011, saying, “We can’t continue seeing each other.”

After the arrival of Princess Leonor in 2005 and Infanta Sofia in 2007, the alleged affair continued, including during one or both of Letizia’s pregnancies. Jaime del Burgo also claims he and Letizia were searching for homes in Los Angeles and wanted to have a child via surrogate.

The allegations started leaking out on Jaime de Burgo’s Twitter account before he shut it down and restoring it. He posted a picture of a pregnant Letizia with the caption: “Love. I am wearing your pashmina. It is like feeling you by my side. It looks after me. Protects me. I am counting the hours until we see each other again, love you, get out of here. Yours.”

More of the alleged Letizia affair came out in a book in which del Burgo was interviewed by the author 91 year old, Jaime Peñafiel Nuñez, called Letizia and I.

Jaime del Burgo digs the metaphorical knife in further when he married Telma Ortiz, Letizia’s sister. He claims that Letizia walked over and congratulated him by kissing him on the cheek and said in his ear, “We’ll be together again.”

The Tatler article even states that Jaime seems to have a high opinion of himself. He alleged proclaimed that he wrote a play called The Hammock after Letizia told him that she loved him while lying in a Hammock at one of her royal residences.

An opinion piece is forthcoming.
