The Characters Of Treasure Planet

Treasure Planet

Disney has a lot of underrated movies in its library. Treasure Planet is one of those. From its alien characters to its story, it has much to be desired, preferably in a good way. It has developed a sizable cult following in the 21 years since its release. So, in this post, we will cover the characters that pop up in the film.

Our lead character is Jim Hawkins, a teenager constantly getting into trouble. He was raised mostly by his mother, Sarah, whose husband, his dad, abandoned them when he was bearly in his teenage years.

John Silver, the ship cook, becomes a father figure to Jim. He also takes over the ship at some point before realising he has a massive soft spot for his young charge.

Treasure Planet also gives us a quirky romance between Doctor Delbert Doppler and Captain Amelia. Delbert is a longtime friend of Sarah and Jim and is like a surrogate father or honorary uncle to the teen.

Captain Amelia’s first mate Mister Arrow, is then thrown to his death by the always angry pirate Mister Scroop.

Nathaniel Flint is a pirate captain seen at the beginning of the movie as the one who found the treasure planet.

Other Treasure Planet Characters

Other characters who appear in the film include:

  • B.E.N. – a navigator robot whose memory circuit was taken out by Flint before he died to prevent him from telling anyone about the massive booby trap Flint set.
  • Mr Dunwitty.
  • Onus.
  • The police robots.
  • Morph.
  • Billy Bones.
  • Jim’s father.

Finally, why Treasure Planet was a box office bomb at the time of its release is a mystery. It has such delightful characters. Thank goodness there is a cult following.
