Look out Trekkie fans! There’s a new show coming featuring fan Spock, Pike, and Number One and will be set in the decade before James T. Kirk assumes command of the Enterprise! Enter Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
It’s an exciting time to be a Star Trek fan. The first season of Picard has just wrapped up with the third season of Discovery on the horizon. There are also a bunch of other Trek projects in the works including the one we’re so excited for! Are you ready? Good, because we are! A new series has just been announced called Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
The serial will feature Captain Pike (Anson Mount), Spock (Ethan Peck), and Number One (Rebecca Romijn) in the years prior to Captain Kirk. Perhaps we’ll get a larger answer to that Short Treks story about Spock and Number one getting trapped in a turbolift.
Will We See Other TOS Characters?
The only Star Trek: The Original Series characters we know that are in the show are Pike, Number, and Spock. The news is still pretty fresh. It might be a while before we know who else will be joining the Enterprise crew.
However, there might be name drops or Easter eggs like there were in Discovery season 1 to Pike and Spock. Michael Burnham, our favourite half-Vulcan’s adoptive sister was our link to her brother. This came before his physical appearance about halfway through the second.
If they do introduce TOS characters, it might not be until the second season. The first one will be used to set up the story with Spock, Pike, and Number One. Could we get Sybok, Spock’s brother? Could this mean we could get the return of Sarek and Amanda? More on that below! Hopefully, we’ll also get more Spock evolution.
Will Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Mention The Events Of Discovery?
Given where Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will sit in the same timeline, it’s possible that we’ll get small mentions of things that happened in Discovery. However, remember at the end of Season 2 when the Enterprise crew were forced to pretend that the USS Discovery was blown up with the ship’s personnel onboard.
We know that’s a lie as Control went after them and they were forced to go into the future to avoid being hunted. The way they could reference the events of their base series is they could indirectly mention things, especially in front of Starfleet.
Picard even had parallels to certain events to what happened in Discovery season 2. Also, there could be conversations between Spock, Pike, and Number One in private about what they experienced. For all we know, they might end up in therapy.
Amanda And Sarek
You can’t have anything Spock-related without his parents, Amanda Grayson and Sarek. They’ve already appeared on Discovery as the support system for their daughter and Spock’s big sister, Michael.
However, to have Amanda and Sarek, would also mean having to keep quiet about what happened with Michael. They know what happened but it would be nice if the three of them sat down and spoke about what occurred. Though, Spock and his father would be at each other’s throats as they always have been.
In conclusion, check out what we know about the show thus far.
