Star Wars is known for its princesses, its most famous being Leia Skywalker Organa Solo. Throughout the franchise there have been other princesses and princes that have popped up.
For this post, we’ll jump through canon and legends material to weed out these royal heirs.
Leia Skywalker Organa Solo – The First Of Star Wars’ Princesses
Of all the Star Wars princesses in this article, Leia, the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and Padmé Amidala, is the most recognisable. Before her birth, her father turned to the Dark Side, and her mother died after her birth.
Leia and her older twin brother, Luke, were left orphaned. It was decided by Obi-Wan Kenobi, an old friend of their parents, Master Yoda and Senator Bail Organa, a friend and colleague of Padmé’s, that the babies were to be separated to protect them from their father and the Emperor.
Bail and his wife, Queen Breha, adopted Leia, meaning she would become the next Queen of Alderaan when the time was right. However, this wasn’t meant to be, as Alderaan was blown up on the orders of Grand Moff Tarkin using the superweapon, the Death Star, killing everyone on the planet, including Bail and Breha.
Leia, like Padmé, knew how to restore faith in people when they couldn’t do it themselves. She restored Obi-Wan’s faith in himself after he spent a decade blaming himself for Anakin’s fall to the Dark side.
It is a common misconception that Padmé’s daughter Leia would be an heir to the Naboo throne as her mother was once Queen. Naboo royalty had nothing to do with blood ties as monarchs were elected, and the role was NOT inherited.
Padmé Amidala
In legends material, Leia’s biological mother, Padmé Amidala, born Padmé Naberrie, was Princess of Theed before she became Queen of Naboo. Padmé’s family was NOT royal by the stretch of the imagination.
When Padmé decided she wanted to run in political circles as a teenager, she was elected as the Princess of Theed, a position similar to being mayor. Being Princess of Theed gave Padmé an advantage when she ran to become Queen of Naboo.
Ben Solo
The only child of Leia and her husband, Han Solo, in canon, Ben Solo could have been King of Alderaan had the planet not been blown up. Since his mother was the heir to the throne of Alderaan due to her adoption by Queen Breha Organa and her husband, Bail, Ben would have been eligible for the throne as his mother would’ve been Queen.
Roola
Roola is a Hutt Princess mentioned in the roleplaying game Knights of Fate.
Lee-Char
Lee-Char was the Prince of the Mon Calamari who became King after his father’s assassination. He would live almost twenty years before dying after the Battle of Yavin in 1ABY after Leia Organa attempts to mount a rescue mission.
Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka
Kneesaa a Jari Kintaka is the daughter of the Ewok Chief Chirpa and is a princess. When her father steps aside as chief, Kneesaa becomes the first Ewok chieftess of the Kintaka Tribe.
Trios And Her Siblings
Trios was the third child of the King of Shu-Torun. She had two older siblings, Prince Monthan and Princess Hollian. After their deaths and that of their father, Trios was became Queen of Shu-Torun.
Rotta
Rotta the Huttlet is a question mark. He was the son of Jabba the Hutt (no, not Ezra Bridger), the real Jabba. However, we don’t know what became of Rotta by the end of the Clone Wars because by the time Leia kills Jabba over 20 years later, Rotta is nowhere to be found, and the Twins, cousins of Jabba, become threats to Boba Fett, who now reigns over Jabba’s territory.
If he lived, Rotta was the heir to Jabba’s crime family.
Xizor
Xizor appears in canon and legends, but the one we cover is canon. So, he is a Falleen prince who becomes a crimelord. He was a member of Black Sun.
Isolder
Prince Isolder appeared in Legends, beginning with The Courtship of Princess Leia, where he proposes a political marriage between them when he falls in love with her.
