The last few years have been difficult for Her Majesty The Queen. She has had to deal with rowdy grandchildren who don’t like being told ‘no’, wayward sons who associate with sex offenders, a divorce, births of multiple great-grandchildren, a load of weddings, and of course, the death of her beloved husband, Prince Philip. In the last couple of hours, the emblem for the Platinum Jubilee, the celebration of Her Majesty’s 70th year on the throne has been unveiled on the Royal Family’s Instagram account. Moreover, she needs something to celebrate and we think we know just the thing…
A national competition was held to find the emblem that would symbolise The Queen’s 70th year on the throne. 19-year-old graphic design student, Edward Roberts was the lucky winner. The font around the outside is a nod to the Order of Service used in the program when Her Majesty was crowned 70 years ago. Purple is the colour of the Robe of Estate which a then-Princess Elizabeth wore upon the coronation. Finally, the continuation of the pattern used for the crown represents The Queen’s long reign.
The emblem will be used all throughout the UK in the lead-up to the event in 2022. It will even be put on cupcakes and merchandising. Oh, and street party bunting! It is currently available to download in English and Welsh. Congratulations to Edward on a fantastic job. We cannot wait to see all the photos from the event in 2022.
