Percy Jackson

Meet Your New Percy Jackson, Camp Half-Blood Fans!

Percy

Welcome, Walker Scobell, son of Poseidon! – Entertainment Weekly’s Nick Romano has dropped the news Percy Jackson fans have been waiting for! We finally know who is portraying the titular character in the upcoming Disney+ series, Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Walker Scobell, who worked with Ryan Reynolds on the recently released Netflix film, The Adam Project, will star in the title role.

The television series is a revival of the failure-to-launch film franchise, also based on Rick Riordan’s bestselling books of the same name.

Moreover, the first season of the show is eight episodes. It’ll be based on the first book, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

For those who don’t know, the Percy Jackson books were inspired by stories Riordan told his eldest son. The author, affectionately known by his fans as ‘Uncle Rick’, is also a former English and History teacher.

What Could Be The Plot Of Percy Jackson And The Olympians‘ First Season?

The first season, as mentioned earlier, will focus on the first book in the first five-book series in the rapidly expanding library of the Camp Half-Blood franchise.

Named after the only demigod child of Zeus to get a happy ending, Perseus “Percy” Jackson is a 12-year-old boy who lives with his mother, Sally Jackson and his repugnant and horrid stepfather Gabe Ugliano. His world comes crashing down around him when he discovers his father is Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. At the same time, his mother is kidnapped, and Percy is framed for stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt.

Percy has dyslexia and ADHD, which is accustomed to all demigod children as it helps them in a fight. Sally married Gabe to protect her son. Percy’s scent as a demigod would attract unsavoury beings from the mythological world. Gabe’s horrid stench masks Percy, concealing him from anything that wants to kill him.

After Sally’s kidnapping, Percy arrives at Camp Half-Blood, a safe haven for demigods to live and train. He learns his best friend, Grover Underwood, is a satyr and meets other demigod children. This includes Annabeth Chase, the daughter of Poseidon’s archrival, Athena, the goddess of Wisdom.

Everything we listed above is from the books. We’re also not going to spoil the ending.

What’s The Status Of The Other Castings?

According to the EW article linked above, Walker Scobell’s casting has been known since January 28th by Riordan, but he couldn’t say anything. The castings for Annabeth and Grover are yet to be announced. We’ll also get other cast announcements for other characters over time. This will include the supporting characters for the story. Whether we’ll get announcements for the gods outside of Zeus and Poseidon is unclear.

Dionysus may appear, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Rick is co-writing the first episode with Jon Steinberg and will serve as an executive producer.

The series currently has no release date but might debut on Disney+ in 2023.

When we have more information, we’ll share it.
