Hopelessly Devoted To People: Olivia Newton-John Dies Aged 73

It’s time to rest now, Olivia. Beloved Grease actress Olivia Newton-John has died aged 73 on her raunch in Southern California. The singer-songwriter was surrounded by those she loved most, including her husband, John Easterling and her only child, daughter, Chloe Lattanzi. The announcement came via John on his wife’s social media accounts. As the world mourns an incredibly kind and loving woman, we must reflect on her massive legacy and her big heart. We’ve also mourning Nichelle Nichols who died recently.

Newton-John had been battling breast cancer for thirty years, stricken with the illness three times. The first time was in 1992; the second was in secret in 2013, and the third time in 2017. The third recurrence had led to the disease spreading to her bones. Furthermore, she used cannabis oil for the pain.

In the hours since the announcement of her death, the world has mourned for Olivia, including many of her Hollywood friends. Her Grease costar and longtime friend, John Travolta, posted a tribute on Instagram.

Olivia and Travolta recorded a Christmas album together, This Christmas, in 2012. Unfortunately, ohn lost his wife, Kelly Preston, in 2020 of breast cancer, the same disease that Olivia was fighting.

Olivia’s fight with breast cancer inspired the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre in Melbourne, her hometown. 9News reports that the centre is mourning her loss as well, as their namesake was a patient once.

Olivia And Acting

Newton-John isn’t just known for her music. She was an actress, having starred as Sandy in the original Grease. She also starred in Xanadu and played the bride’s mother in the film, A Few Best Men. Olivia also starred in the Paul Hogan film, The Very Excellent Mr Dundee, her final film.

Olivia credited Xanadu for introducing her to Matt Lattanzi, her first husband and the father of Chloe. The couple divorced in 1995.
