Matthew Perry Dies At 54

Matthew Perry, Apparent Drowning

It’s always a tragedy when any person dies, but the death of Friends star Matthew Perry of an apparent drowning was a shock to everyone. The actor, who starred in the sitcom that also made Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc famous, was 54.

The news of the apparent drowning of Matthew Perry came from TMZ before it spread to other news outlets, including ABC, Sydney Morning Herald, and Entertainment Weekly.

Perry has long been open about his struggle with drug and alcohol addiction and mentioned in his memoir, Friends, Lovers and The Terrible Big Thing, that he was sober or in the process of doing so.

Matthew Perry is well-known for his role as Chandler Bing on Friends, but he has done other projects, including 17 Again, where Zac Efron plays a younger version of Perry’s character.

Apparent Drowning Or Over-Exercising?

According to TMZ, which has since been updated, Perry had been exercising in the hours leading up to his death, playing pickleball, rather. He returned to his Los Angeles home before sending his assistant out.

The assistant returned from their errand run two hours later to find the actor unconscious and rang 911. It is unclear whether the exercise Matthew Perry was doing before he died was a factor in his death. It is also unknown whether the hot tub (jacuzzi) story is true.

Sending so much love to the Perry family right now. Matthew Perry had his demons, but his talent was undeniable. RIP Mister Perry.
