Is Albus Dumbledore Good Or Bad? Wizarding World Questions

good bad, albus dumbledore

We’ve written a lot of content on Albus Dumbledore. However, we have yet to discuss whether he is good or bad. Now, there are tons of videos on YouTube and articles on Google about this topic, but we wanted to put our own spin on it.

When you look at the outer story of Harry Potter, you would automatically assume that Albus Dumbledore is a good guy who doesn’t have a bad bone in his century-old body. Let’s not forget he’s a great teacher. However, what if we told you that he was a bit of both good and bad? Even the Business Standard subscribes to this notion.

On the inside, Albus Dumbledore did the right thing in putting Harry Potter under the protection of his Muggle relatives, the Dursleys. However, it was all part of a much larger plan that would be put into practice a decade later once the Boy Who Lived arrived at Hogwarts.

Severus Snape said it perfectly with his “You’ve prepared him like a pig for slaughter” line in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He’s not wrong. Dumbledore knew basically from the beginning that Harry would have to sacrifice himself to stop Voldemort.

Was Albus Dumbledore Good Or Bad? Was He Being Selfish?

However, it could be argued that Dumbledore thought we’d be alive to see this happen. He didn’t expect his hand to get cursed by one of the Horcruxes. Is that a little selfish of him? Yeah, it could be if it were part of his plan.

His death also led to Harry, years later, naming his youngest son after him and Snape.

In conclusion, is Albus Dumbledore good or bad? We believe it’s a mixed bag.
