James Gunn And Peter Safran Unveil The First Phrase Of Their Grand Plan To Revamp DC Films

James Gunn and Peter Safran finally have the first slate of their planned revival for the embattled DC Films out in the public domain. We’ve known for a few weeks that a new Superman movie is in the works with Gunn writing. Now, we know what the title is. But wait! There’s a lot more where that’s from. So, our main source is from Comicbook, so let’s jump into the first slate called “Gods and Monsters.”

We’re going to break it down into two groups; Gods and Monsters. So, let’s start with the Gods. However, we need to stress that of all the projects that have been announced; only one has a solid release date, and one is rumoured to have a director in mind. We’ll also briefly touch on the “Elseworlds” stories.

The Gods Of The DC Pantheon

James revealed that the gods portion of the slate will include:

  • Superman: Legacy – according to Polygon, the film will be released on July 11, 2025. – Film – Will be influenced by the famed comic series, “All-Star Superman.” Will feature Supes much earlier in his superhero career.
  • The Brave and the Bold – features a new look at Batman trying to rein in his son and the fourth Robin, Damien Wayne and will feature the entire bat-family. Unclear, but likely a movie.
  • Paradise Lost – a television series set before Wonder Woman’s birth and has been described as Game of Thrones with the Amazons.
  • LanternsA reworking of the Green Lantern Corps series already in production and will NOT involve Greg Berlanti. Is the DC equivalent to True Detective and focuses on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. – Television series.
  • Booster Gold – Television series.
  • Waller – A second spinoff television series to Gunn’s The Suicide Squad focusing on Amanda Waller. – Set between Peacemaker Seasons One and Two.
  • The Authority – Film.
  • Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow – Unclear whether it will be film or television.

The “Monsters” Of DC

  • Swamp Thing – film with potentially James Mangold (director of Logan) as the director, according to news.com.au.
  • Creature Commandos – a third spin-off to The Suicide Squad and will be the only animated project in the slate and will feature Weasel. – All seven episodes are already written by Gunn himself.

The Elseworlds Universe

JoeBlo mentions that Matt Reeves’ The Batman sequel and Todd Philip’s Joker: Folie à Deux will be placed under the Elseworlds category.
