It looks like Hugh Grosvenor, the current Duke of Westminster, has chosen a side in the British royal row. One of the richest peers in the United Kingdom is due to marry his fiancée, Olivia Henson, in Jun 2024 in the biggest society wedding of the year. While not a British royal, Hugh has been good friends with Princes William and Harry for many years. He’s a godfather to the Prince of Wales’ eldest son, Prince George. The Daily Mail recently revealed he was also a godparent to the Duke of Sussex’s son, Archie. This is also the same article where they reveal that Harry and Meghan have not made the guest list.
The article claims that the Duke of Westminster wanted to invite both William and Catherine and Harry and Meghan to the society wedding. But he decided against inviting the Sussexes to avoid any drama on the day. It was also revealed that Prince George will be at the wedding. Whether he’ll be a page boy is unknown.
The exclusion of Harry and Meghan from the society wedding of the year tells us a few things. The decision to invite William and Catherine shows that the Duke of Westminster is closer to them than the Sussexes. Also, the inclusion of Prince George says the same thing. It is also said that the King and Queen have been invited along with other royals.
The Duke Of Westminster Is Still Friendly With Harry
The last thing Hugh and Olivia need on their wedding day is Harry and Meghan leaking information about what Markle is wearing and making the event about themselves.
It is understood that Hugh still has contact with Harry and wishes the brothers will “patch things up” but understands this will not happen, at least, by the time of the society wedding. Archie’s godparents have never officially been named by Harry and Meghan. However, it has been said that the other people include Charlie van Straubenzee (an old school friend of Harry’s), Tiggy Pettifer (Harry and William’s childhood nanny) and Mark Dyer (Harry’s minder).
The news of the Duke of Westminster’s Sussex snub comes as Prince William allegedly demands action against Omid Scobie over his naming of King Charles and Catherine as the alleged royal racists.
