And The Woke Crowd Are At It Again… They Want To Cancel THIS Word…

What is wrong with the word ‘Curry’?

The woke crowd is in the media again, but for something, we didn’t see coming. Someone posted an article from Sky News about some food bloggers wanting the word ‘curry’ banned because it allegedly has ties to British Colonialism. Umm… what?

According to the article, a Californian food blogger posted an Instagram video that was viewed over 3.6 million times and according to her, foreign people misuse the term ‘curry’ for any dish associated with South Asian culture. Okay, here’s the issue we have with this. The opinion of one person does not outweigh that of others.

A professor of religious studies at the University of Vermont says to her knowledge that the word, ‘curry’ does not exist within the South Asian language.

a number of historians make the bold claim that British officials mistook the word ‘kari’ which is a Tamil word for ‘curry’. In fact, ‘kari’ has several meanings and can be translated to ‘blackened’ and ‘side dish’ but it really depends on the region in which it is said.

There is more to the story, but in all honesty, it shouldn’t matter. You don’t hear South Asian people complain about it. Also, don’t these woke people think before they speak? The word ‘curry’ doesn’t just relate to food. It also relates to people as the term is also used as a last name. In fact, there is a series of actors in Australia who are brothers whose last name is Curry. Are you calling for a surname to be cancelled too?

Feeding Frenzy

Finally, if the word were to be cancelled, what would the foods we call curries to be labelled? The world has become a breeding ground for political correctness. We’ve been to an Indian restaurant and they openly referred to several of their dishes as ‘curries’.

Also, professional chefs who make ‘curries’ on cooking shows like Masterchef refer to them as such. The woke crowd needs to stop and think. How are other people going to react to your thought process? We couldn’t care less what the world thinks of ours but when you’re in the business of writing about food on a regular basis then you need to look past what you think is right because it might cause a negative opinion from others.
