Batwoman: Luke Flirts Up A Storm With Stephanie While Alice Reconstructs The Face Of ‘Circe’ Only To Discover She’s Actually Kate

This week’s Batwoman episode was one of the best as it shows a new side to Luke as he teams up with the daughter of Cluemaster, Stephanie Brown, while Ryan and Mary join forces with Sophie, and Alice makes a startling discovery; her sister is still alive.

Things are going in all directions for our characters in Batwoman this week. Sophie’s past with Arthur Brown, aka Cluemaster, comes back to bite her when he escapes prison after five years. To make it worse, Ryan, who still doesn’t trust her, and Mary are caught up in the villain’s game. This comes after his daughter, Stephanie, is caught in the middle. Meanwhile, Alice is fighting her own battle as she struggles to keep herself alive after being kidnapped by Black Mask.

So, our thoughts on Stephanie and Luke already knowing each other were incorrect. She has no ties to the Bat family in the Arrowverse. Though, she does have a link to Sophie which stems back to Cluemaster. Five years earlier, Agent Moore – then a rookie Crow – had put Arthur behind bars.

However, she took the credit for cracking the clues behind the vengeful former gameshow host’s bomb threat. Though, she was encouraged by Stephanie – who had rung the tipline – to do so. The next day after [Arthur] Brown was locked away, Sophie was promoted despite being her second day on the job, and the praise ate her alive as she didn’t feel like she deserved it.

Little did Cluemaster realise that Sophie wasn’t the reason he was in prison; his daughter was.

Upon meeting Luke, there is an instant connection between them to the point it’s flirtatious. In a nutshell, they’re super bright. After a fierce confrontation with Arthur, Fox saves his potential love interest, and they kiss. As much as we loved it, we wish more of them were together!

Alice Learns The Truth About Her Sister

For most of the episode, Alice is tortured with metal rods jammed under her fingernails to get her to spill who Batwoman is to Black Mask. It wasn’t too gruesome, but the former Beth Kane did lose a fingernail which you see being lifted out of its bed on her finger. That made us look away, for sure.

However, the end of the episode didn’t surprise us. Jumping back for a moment and last week saw Alice notice something was a little bit odd about ‘Circe’. This week we learn she [Alice] knew the Circe had died in a prison stampede at Arkham as she had walked over the woman’s dead body. She then volunteers to make herself a new face. However, before she attaches it, she notes that the scarred lady won’t look the same as in the photo provided by Black Mask.

The reason is that the real Circe had brown eyes whereas the woman she was about to give a new face had blue eyes. It’s not until the new face is applied does Alice realise who she’s looking at. It’s her sister, Kate, who has their father [Jacob]’s eyes.

Where Alice’s Discovery Could Take Her

While we don’t expect a redemption arc for Alice to come from this, we think she may go to someone closest to her sister with the information. At first, it’s doubtful that anyone will believe her, given her history. We know Luke has been desperate to get his friend home though he was devastated when Julia informed them that Kate’s body parts had been discovered. If anyone believes the former Beth, it will be him.

Since Mary and Sophie trust him, they will likely come around too. However, Jacob might be a harder sell. This might allow a temporary truce between the warring factions to form until they get Kate back to her usual self.
