Cancel Culture is a menace at the best of times but what does it actually achieve?
What is it with social media users and their constant need to use cancel culture? What does it actually achieve outside of putting someone in the limelight for something negative they’ve done? Nine times out of ten, the target of these attacks, don’t actually stay silent. Also, the practice also prohibits the right to free speech.
Cancel Culture needs to stop. We’ve all seen the horrors of how it can inflict on people. Look at how Omid Scobie is trying to have Yanky Wally cancelled because of her views on Meghan Markle. Speaking of which, after the coverted Oprah interview Piers Morgan was told to leave his position at Good Morning Britian after the Duchess of Sussex lodged a formal complaint against him.
Let’s not forget what happened with Sharon Osbourne around the same as per the New York Times. Then, there’s the whole thing with CNN. It’s pretty distressing to watch when someone is caught up in something as meaningless as cancel culture.
Another example we have to go off is the Hartley Sawyer situation. This happened because the woke crowd couldn’t find anything else to do. What he did was wrong, but he has had a change of attitude in the years since. However, The CW was put between a rock and hard place. They could either choose to do nothing and be criticised. Or, fire him – which is what ended up happening – and still be criticised. Either way, they were never it a good place. The Flash‘s lead star, Grant Gustin supported Sawyer’s firing which didn’t do him many favours either.
Another example that we don’t think really counts, but we’re going to include it is the whole BYE Sister thing with James Charles.
Beauty YouTubers Are Notorious For Trying To Cancel Each Other
Cancel Culture is everywhere but the one place that it is found is in the YouTube Beauty community. What once was a safe haven for makeup lovers to trade tips and tricks, is now the worst place imaginable if you assiocate with the wrong people. There has also been a massive disruption in the status quo of these people because for a long time, Jeffree Star was on top before James Charles came along and pushed Star off his pedestal. This ultimately went down like a lead balloon as the man-child Star has been threatening James Charles with a recording of a sexual assault he allegedly committed.
Let’s not forget that has been a ton of scandals over the past few years which has resulted several dozen YouTubers be almost cancelled but not entirely. A load of the issues are created by the content creators themselves just to get clicks. Or, the situations are created purely by accident like the Jaclyn Hill lipstick drama. Oh! And let’s not forget the Olivia Jade dramas.
A lot of other communities have had their dramas to over the years, but none are as notorious for scandal as the BeautyTubers. It is a scary thought to have all these random people trying to silence you for your thoughts. It’s unfair and while some beliefs should never be broadcast to the outside world, they will be because of freedom of speech.
