What Cameos From Obi-Wan’s Life Do We Want To See?

cameo

Through the eyes of others – Obi-Wan will face his past and likely choose what his biggest mistake was. But, when it comes to those who shaped him into the man he is, there is substance there that could weather doubt he may have. According to series director Deborah Chow, during an interview with Jack Shephard of Total Film, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series will give the simple cameo a more significant meaning.

Okay, she doesn’t say those exact words, but she has said, “There are surprises to come.” We were curious as to what she meant. Also, this jumps off a comment that Liam Neeson made regarding a return to Star Wars as Kenobi’s late Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. According to Geek Culture, he would be open to playing the slain Jedi again, but only in a movie.

During this week’s Wookieeleaks episode on the New Rockstars YouTube channel, Erik Voss and Tommy Bechtold agreed that Liam Neeson was saying during a video interview was a misdirect. Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time an actor has denied being involved in a big project. Both Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire openly denied being involved in Spider-Man: No Way Home. That is until the film opened and revealed they were in the movie. Significantly few people fell for the lie.

In the same interview with Deborah, she addressed the Liam Neeson comment saying that fans would be surprised at the cameo appearances. Ultimately, this doesn’t say very much. Though given she is the director, she knows more than we do.

So, let’s look a some of the potential cameo appearances. We’ve decided to leave Anakin off this list as he is technically in the show but as Vader.

Qui-Gon Jinn

One cameo everyone wants to see is Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan’s late master, who Darth Maul killed during the Phantom Menace. As you read above, Liam Neeson denied being involved. However, this could be a misdirect like with the Spider-Man thing. Do we believe that Liam Neeson could appear? Yes, we think he could, as he voiced the character during the Clone Wars, and he’s done other television shows in the past.

Anyway, Qui-Gon would be the perfect fit for the series, especially after Yoda says in Revenge of the Sith. He could give Obi-Wan the pep talk he needs to go on whatever mission he is tasked with.

Dexter Jettster

A longtime friend of Obi-Wan’s, another logical choice we have for a cameo is Dex, the Besalisk who knew a thing or two about Kamino. Unfortunately, the actor who portrayed the gentle giant in Attack of the Clones died in 2016. They could reuse the scenes from Episode II or film new ones with a new actor.

We know that Dexter is still a prominent character in Obi-Wan’s story because he will feature in the upcoming book, Brotherhood.

Satine Kryze

A BIG cameo that would send everybody wild is Satine Kryze, Obi-Wan’s lost love. Like Qui-Gon, Satine died at the hands of Maul and died in Kenobi’s arms. So it would be HUGE if she were to have some cameo.

In an excerpt from the upcoming book, Brotherhood, Dex mentions that Satine gave Obi-Wan the nickname ‘Ben.’ This is also the alias he uses when he goes undercover. Not to say, he uses the name as part of his identity on Tatooine when he goes into exile.

Padmé Amidala

Another cameo can we see as possible is Luke’s (and Leia’s) biological mother, Padmé Amidala. It makes sense as she and Obi-Wan were friends, and they both knew each other through Anakin. The senator knew Obi-Wan first as he was one of her Jedi protectors during the Blockade of Naboo.

There could be a situation where Obi-Wan has a breakdown and claims he failed Padmé in not being able to save her husband or protect her children. Natalie Portman wouldn’t even have to appear. They could use archival or unused footage if they decide to show her face.

Ahsoka Tano

When Ahsoka left the Jedi Order, she didn’t have a problem with Anakin, as he supported her through her trial. However, she had an axe to grind with Obi-Wan as he kept quiet when she was suffering. He didn’t attempt to defend her to the Jedi Council, despite silently believing she was innocent of her alleged crimes.

Upon Ahsoka returning to the unofficial Jedi fold, she wasn’t pleased that Obi-Wan tried to apologise. But, to her, it was too late. He had his chance and blew it. If Ahsoka does appear in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, it would be an excellent way for them to mend fences.
