Who Were Rey’s Parents In Star Wars?

Rey, parents

There has long been discussion over who Rey Skywalker’s parents are. Kylo Ren once said her parents abandoned her and sold her to Unkar Plutt for drinking money. We later found out that this wasn’t the case. Instead, they left her on Jakku to protect her from her grandfather, Sheev Palpatine. So, who were the mystery parents?

Rey’s father was named Dathan, a clone or rather, strandcast, of Sheev Palpatine. Her mother was Miramir. Like her mother, Rey was born on Hyperkarn, but spent most of her life on Jakku.

Dathan and Miramir were killed by Ochi, a follower of Palpatine. They died protecting their daughter from her grandfather. While they were dubbed as unimportant and weak by Kylo Ren and the resurrected Emperor, Rey saw her parents as brave and selfless who sacrificed themselves to protect her.

The “Abomination”

Rey’s father was seen as “an abomination” because he was not Force-sensitive like Palpatine wanted. Many of the clones created of the Sith Lord were not, though Dathan was one of the few that looked human. Supreme Leader Snoke was also a strandcast, but he was Force sensitive, though he was disfigured. Sheev got one of two things. However he wanted both a human looking clone and they had to be Force Sensitive.

The love that Dathan and Miramir had for Rey was strong enough that they did the unthinkable and forced it upon themselves to give her up for her own protection. While their daughter wasn’t quite old enough to under this at the time, as an adult, she came to understand the sacrifice they made for her and to temperorily delay Sheev’s plan for galactic conquest.
