Thunderbolt has been cast for Stargirl Season 2…

Remember the pink pen Courtney discarded as useless in Season 1 despite Pat saying otherwise? Well, we have news regarding this. Thunderbolt has been cast for Season 2 and it’s a name we recognise.

Stand up Comedian Jim Gaffigan – known for this roles in 13 Going On 30 (Suddenly 30 in Australia) and Hotel Translvania 3 will provide the voice inside the pink pen, according to Entertainment Weekly. This comes just weeks after the reveal that The Shade and Eclipso had also been cast for the upcoming sophomore outing of Stargirl.

Who Is Thunderbolt?

For those who don’t know who Thunderbolt is, here’s a quick rundown. Known also as Yz, he is a 5th dimension genie who partners with Johnny Thunder and later Jakeem Thunder and lives inside a pink pen.

Basically, think of him as being like Mxyzptlk, but a genie and not an imp. He also helped cure Johnny of Alzhiemer’s. They are both members of the Justice Society of America in the comics.

Thunderbolt’s Role In Stargirl

While not seen, Thunderbolt or at least, the pink pen in which he resides exists within the Stargirl show. After the deaths of the original JSA, the pen was kept in the Justice Society headquarters until it was stolen by Pat Dugan’s stepdaughter, Courtney Whitmore when she decided to reboot the long gone superhero group.

Pat cautioned Courtney about the pen when she moved to touch it, stating it was the most dangerous object in the room. She laughed it off give how harmless it appeared. To prove a point, she clicks it but nothing happens before placing it in the pen holder in her room, where it currently remains. He even laughed at her.

Johnny was killed by Brainwave when the Justice Society was attacked by their evil counterparts, the Injustice Society. This left Thunderbolt trapped in the pen for a decade.

How Could Thunderbolt Come Into Play In Season 2?

There are so many questions we have regarding Thunderbolt, but how could he come into play? Well, we know Mike has a friend named Jakeem and Courtney has the pen stashed away in her pen holder. So, what if we get to meet this guy and he ends up getting Yz to come out of his hiding place?

Again, there is a million ways the whole story revolving Thunderbolt could play out. If we’re getting him, then we’re probably getting Jakeem too. For we all know, we could be getting a solo storyline of just him. However, we may get a flashback with him and Johnny.

Anything is possible, but the little seeds that were planted during Season 1 will likely be addressed. If we’re honest, we’d love to see something where Thunderbolt and his wielder’s relationship mirrors that of Courtney and the staff or Beth and Chuck. Perhaps, the AI (if he gets repaired) remembers the genie as being annoying. Now, that would be a good rivalry to see.
