Two royal couples with different statements – The Cambridges have a personal connection to the President and First Lady of Ukraine. Meanwhile, the Sussexes don’t have any ties to the nation. We all know that the British royals aren’t permitted to engage in politics. However, this has not stopped Prince William and Catherine and Harry and Meghan from voicing their support for Ukraine.
As people have pointed out, the Cambridges have met the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy. This includes his wife, First Lady Olena Zelenska.
However, the Sussexes have no ties to the country. Sure, they’re private citizens or are supposed to be and can issue statements on anything they want. Though, their statement comes across as arrogant. They believe they are humanitarians, which enables them to speak on such a topic. While they’re not doing anything to help the situation itself, and they’re not actual humanitarians, their use of their titles is what is annoying the public.
While there is nothing wrong with supporting a cause, Harry and Meghan’s constant use of the Sussex dukedom is why their statement has been labelled as self-serving.
Royal Statements
Above are the statements from both couples. As you can see, William and Catherine posted to their Twitter account. It is not an official royal statement done on their stationery. Moreover, they don’t sign the tweet as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Instead, they sign as W & C.
Going over to the Sussex statement and it was done on their Archewell site. It begins with them being referred to as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Okay, this is what is pissing people off. They think people don’t know who they are if they don’t include their titles. Given they are in the media every day and the entire world sees the news, it’s impossible NOT to know who they are. Also, Princess Diana was one of the most photographed on Earth who adored her sons. Harry and William were both well-known, even as kids.
The grammar on the Sussex statement is atrocious. We put the statement through Grammarly, and it came up with this:
While it might not look horrible to the average person. To a writer, it’s terrible. As you can see, it’s missing a comma. It is also is a very long sentence. What we couldn’t capture in the screenshot was the word count. For anyone wondering, it is 42 words. The average sentence is 20 words or less. Then, we have the readability score, which is 29. This isn’t good. The larger the number, the easier it is to read with 100.
We couldn’t fake these digits if we tried. Anyway, this doesn’t appear to be written by Harry or Meghan. It doesn’t read like their typical word salad. Whoever wrote it didn’t check it before hitting publish.
Thinking Of Others vs. Selfish
To end this post, we want to point out that the way the Sussexes sound in their statement is selfish. The “encourage the global community to do the same” makes them come off as pushy and self-serving. They believe they are world leaders. They are no such thing. Figures such as Prime Ministers, Presidents, monarchs, politicians, activists are world leaders.
All Harry and Meghan do, is preach to the masses from their million-dollar mansion. They’re not on the front lines distributing food packages, water, and other vital necessities. Most humanitarians do their work quietly and don’t publicise it. However, the Sussexes claim to be helping people by talking about whatever their latest bandwagon is, but talking is NOT doing.
William silently helped a former soldier get out of Afghanistan, according to Joshua Zitser of Insider. Have you ever heard of Harry doing this without publicising it? We don’t know about you, but we haven’t. We could be wrong, but you don’t see Meghan’s idol, Angelina Jolie screaming about every good deed she does.
In conclusion, if Meghan and Harry want to be serious humanitarians, they need to stop advertising every endeavour they fail to endorse on a global scale.
