Hawkeye: The Mission Is Getting More Dangerous

mission

We’re at the midway point of the Hawkeye series, and we’re beginning to notice that Clint and Kate’s mission as of episode four has become more perilous. We’ve spoken about Yelena coming into the story before. However, there’s more to this than we’re being told. As the mystery continues to deepen with the Tracksuits, Maya, Jack and Eleanor, Kazi and Natasha’s sister, the Hawkeyes need to be on alert. Also, it makes us want to ask about Laura Barton and how she has some of her husband’s contacts on speed dial.

Then, we come to the question that Marvel-Netflix fans have been asking since the beginning; is “Uncle” Kingpin? Also, what is Eleanor hiding, and how does she know so much about Clint’s relationship with Nat? Finally, we wanted to question who is Clint’s mystery friend is. There are so many inquiries that we’re going to try and answer.

Before we begin, there will be spoilers for episode four and previous episodes, so please watch the episodes before reading ahead.

Mission: Make Up For Clint’s Lost Christmas Experiences

One of the most endearing moments in episode four is Kate making up for Clint’s missed Christmas fun with the kids. This was so sweet as she wanted to cheer him up as he feels he is letting Cooper, Lila and Nathaniel down by not being there like he promised. After all, he’s missed five Christmases with them due to the Snap.

Anyway, Kate gives herself the mission to get Clint to open up a little more as he’s been secretive since they met. Though, she knew about the kids and Laura as they were mentioned. Moreover, she notes during their holiday fun that Clint was Ronin. What’s more, is she’s not afraid of what he did while he wants her to be. After all, he did say that he wasn’t a good role model for her in the previous episode.

Kate goes all out with the pizza, ugly sweaters, Christmas movies and the slushies. If we’re honest, it makes her feel like she’s a part of something outside of her mother constantly pushing her to do as she wants. She wants to make Clint feel better about missing his family time and bringing it to him.

Eleanor mentions to Jack that after the Battle of New York, Kate became obsessed with Clint. This explains she took up archery. Furthermore, since the death of her father, Kate hasn’t had a paternal figure. Jack didn’t fill that role in the way he thought he would. Is he disappointed? Heck no. He doesn’t give up.

What Is Going On With Laura Barton?

Clint’s wife, Laura, is hiding something from the audience, but what is it? She’s more than just his spouse and the mother of his three children. We’ve known since Avengers: Age of Ultron that she’s always been supportive of her husband’s activities as Hawkeye. We also saw how much she valued Natasha’s friendship, especially since she was willing to name her third child after her.

In episode four, we learn that Laura can speak German, as noted by Erik Voss and MT on New Rockstars’ Inside Marvel Aftershow.

Voss and MT came up with a theory that Laura could’ve been a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who retired when she met Clint. It’s possible that if this was the case, she could’ve had the codename, Mockingbird.

Now, for those who aren’t aware, in the comics, Mockingbird is the alias for Bobbi Morse, who is a longtime love interest to Clint. She was also married to him at one time. The character appeared for a short time in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but it is up in the air whether that show is MCU-based or not despite characters from the films popping up. According, the Bobbi Morse page on the MCU Fandom site, Clint is listed as one of her allies. Kevin Feige (allegedly) has said that the show is NOT part of the overall MCU.

Moreover, this raises an interesting question; could the codename “Mockingbird” be a title that is passed down like Black Widow or Captain America? This is what Erik and MT have both theorised, and it makes sense. After all, every recruit in the Black Widow program was referred to as Black Widow.

How Much Did Natasha Tell Clint About Her Past?

We all know by now how pear-shaped the mission to Vormir went in Avengers: Endgame. Remember when Nebula said that Thanos killed Gamora there? Thinking about it now, the mission was doomed from the start. In the Black Widow post-credit scene, Valentina Allegra De Fontaine shows up and asks Yelena if she wants a crack at killing the man who supposedly murdered her sister.

Now, that brings in a question of its own; how much of her past did Nat tell Clint? It appears just by the Yelena reveal at the end of Hawkeye episode four that Barton has no idea who the Black Widow assassin is. Or does he? He tells Kate that the woman is like Nat; a Black Widow. That’s as far as the conversation goes. He knew immediately that his assailant was a Black Widow the moment he was tasered by the Widow’s Bite.

We also know that Nat adored Clint as he was like a brother to her. This is evident by the arrow necklace she wore. The Barton children also dubbed her “Auntie Nat”. She also was close to Laura.

Also, Yelena knew bits about Clint because Natasha had told her about when she broke free of the Black Widow Program and defected to S.H.I.E.L.D. She was given a small insight into Romanoff and Barton’s relationship and how he tried to kill her but was unable to do so.

Nat also tended to keep her life a mystery from her friends, so it’s unclear how much Clint knew about her past, which brings us to Yelena. Did he know, by name, who she is and the relationship she had with his best friend? Hopefully, we’ll get that answer next week.

Could “Uncle” Be Kingpin?

Now, this is not a question we were going to answer, but we thought we would just for the sake of it. So, could the Netflix-Marvel version of Wilson Fisk/Kingpin be coming to the MCU? It’s possible. We’re going to be transparent here and say we’ve never seen Daredevil.

We will admit that there are clues to Fisk appearing in the series, especially with the mysterious “Uncle” and the stuff to do with Maya. Then, there’s the information that Laura dropped about someone working above Jack who is somehow involved too. Clint mentions “the big guy” who could be anyone from Nick Fury to the Hulk.

Though, Fury and Bruce aren’t criminals. Wilson Fisk has a history the Tracksuits and Maya in the comics. He killed her father and raised her as his own. He was also the leader of the Tracksuit Draculas while crossing paths with the likes of Spider-Man, Daredevil, and later the Hawkeyes.

Next week will give us the answer we’ve been seeking to this “Uncle” mystery.

Mission To Discover The Owner Of The Rolex

So, the first episode of the series raised an important question; what is with the Rolex with the tag that says “Avengers Compound”? We discover in episode four that Clint has a friend undercover whose identity is tied to the watch. At first, people thought it might be Tony Stark’s watch as he had a watch that housed the nanotech for his Iron Man armour. However, it is now verified that it does NOT belong to Tony.

It has also been said that the watch could belong to Clint himself. Though, from what we’ve seen of Clint in the MCU, he doesn’t usually wear a watch. It could’ve been a gift from someone. However, we’re going to reserve that question for after the reveal.

Are Yelena, Eleanor And/Or Maya Working Together?

Finally, the last question we had to answer is Eleanor working with Yelena and/or Maya? It’s hard to work out what is going on with Mrs Bishop. She’s been acting stranger since the prologue of the series which took place in 2012 during the Battle of New York.

So, was she the one that sent Maya the information about Clint’s family? There were very few people who knew about them. Look at what was said during Avengers: Age of Ultron. Only Fury and Nat knew about the Barton family. What’s more, is that it came as a shock to the other Avengers that Barton was living a life they didn’t know about.

Eleanor’s behaviour makes us believe she’s hiding something. Is she a secret crime boss? Armand III who was murdered in episode one did accuse her of raising her organisation through questionable means. Did she kill her husband to get control of his family business? Is she the one who contacted Valentina or Yelena? She also threw Nat’s death in Clint’s face. We’ll cover that in a different post as that is a fascinating thought.

In conclusion, now that we think about it, it’s way too convenient that Eleanor would make a call, and Yelena shows up to try and kill Clint. Though, it might be the person above Maya in the Tracksuits or someone linked to Sloan Limited.
