We never expected to say goodbye to the prime version of Loki, everyone’s favourite trickster in the MCU. But he’s coming back and we’re thrilled… sorta…
Since his introduction in 2011’s Thor, Loki has always been a character that fans have come to love. Tom Hiddleston’s performance as the god of mischief has always thrilled audiences in ways Marvel Studios never expected. However, in 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War saw the adoptive son of Odin die at the hands of the Mad Titan, Thanos.
To say the level of devastation amongst the fandom was undeniably huge given the love we all have for the frost giant. No one could have suspected that he’d appear in Avengers: Endgame. Though, it was not the iteration of Thor’s brother that got killed in the previous film. It was the 2012 version that had not yet become friendly-ish with his adoptive big bro. That is where the 2021 series Loki comes in…
Time Period
It’s been revealed that the Loki series will be set post-Avengers: Endgame. We’ll also see the trickster travel to 1975 to the year Jaws was released. We weren’t aware of any concept art until we learned that Kevin Feige showed some artwork at a Disney Investor meeting seven months ago. We learned of this only today.
What The Loki Series Will Focus On
While there is not a lot of information on the Loki series, we do know a couple of things about it.
The first will be the antics 2012 Loki gets up to after he disappears with the Tessaract.
Our second focus will see the effects of the alternate timeline that was created after Loki vanished.
It has also been confirmed that Tom Hiddleston isn’t the only actor to be playing the god of mischief. It’s been confirmed that Sophia Di Martino will take on a female version of Loki. How this is going to be pulled off is anybody’s guess.
Production
According to Tom Hiddleston’s Instagram feed, Pre-production for Loki has already began.
While his post didn’t give anything away, he did mention that we’ll know more in the new year. We also know that the series will be a limited series that will run six hours which means the show will be six episodes long with each running for an hour.
It was also announced earlier in the year that the entire series will be directed by Kate Herron. The showrunner will be Michael Waldron.
Kevin Feige revealed also that the series will tie into the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
For now this is all we know so we think a far amount of theorising can take place. We’re just glad that Tom Hiddleston is still up for playing the role. We thought after Endgame he’d want out. Though, apparently not. Never leave us, Tom, never leave us. Owen Wilson will also be joining the cast.
