Cancel Culture

Can We Stop Trying To Cancel Each Other, Just For Having A Different Opinion?

There is no end in sight for cancel culture. Last week was a rough one as beloved YouTuber Murky Meg was suspended from Twitter. Since then, she has posted to Instagram that it has become a struggle for her as she doesn’t know what happened. Moreover, cancel culture is creating a civil war amongst those revealing the truth about Meghan and Harry.

Murky Meg did a YouTube video the other day where she explained that she was given no warning that her Twitter account had been suspended. What’s more, is she logged into Twitter and couldn’t access it. Moreover, she has a theory that the Sussexes themselves have attempted to cancel her by asking the social media giant to put an IP ban on her account.

Now, for those wondering, an IP ban comes from the highest of the high, and yes, it is the same one Donald Trump got. Murky Meg did NOTHING wrong. She was only voicing her opinion. I have watched her videos, and she is not nasty, nor is she racist, nor does she attack the children.

What disgusts me is that if she is right and the Sussexes were behind the IP ban, then no one is safe. Anyone who has a big following is a target. What worries me is the in-fighting that has now occurred.

Other YouTubers In The “Let’s Cancel List” Of Those Who Believe The BS Rumours

Other YouTubers have been accused of targeting Murky Meg for… what reason? That is the thing I am the most unsure of. One of those is According to Taz, who I love watching as well. She went on record in her latest video to say she has been blamed for going after Murky. Anyone who loves her videos and follows her knows this isn’t true. She has said that Murky is the whole reason she started her channel and that she is a good friend to her.

Taz and various other YouTubers have nothing but praise for Murky. So, why would they attempt to bring her down? Also, Taz said in her video that she does not and never has had the power to order Twitter or any social media account to put an IP ban on anyone’s account.

A load of Twitter users who fall under the “we don’t like Meghan due to her behaviour” camp – which is me and many others – have had to lock our Twitter accounts to protect ourselves. We’ve done this in case someone tries to use our tweets against us. Furthermore, some look to cancel others for reasons that are beyond anyone’s comprehension.

The community that has formed used to be about putting the truth out there. Now, it is nothing more than a toxic dump of doxxing and bad-mouthing. People are scared they’ll be next because they don’t like someone else’s opinions. I’ve seen one of my followers say she’s been doxxed due to her views.

Terrified

People are terrified of being the next victim of rumours and gossip. Anyone who doxxes someone is no different to the Sussex Squad. I’ve had to block Sugars and members of our little community to prevent being a target. I was tagged in a Tweet from a community member the other day as a heads up to block a person from the Sussex Squad.

I have also had to disable comments on Instagram for all my royal posts because I was being attacked. For anyone who follows Project Fangirl might have noticed that a lot of new posts don’t have the comments switched on the main site. I’ve shut them off due to trolls.

Going back to the Twitter war, I am sick and tired of opening Twitter and seeing how terrified my followers are of being caught up in this never-ending cancel culture clash.

Think Before You Tweet And Free Speech For All

I urge everyone who is following me or someone else within our community to think twice before you tweet anything. It doesn’t matter how innocent you think it is. Someone else might be offended by it.

Now, if there is one person in the world of media that I don’t like, it’s Piers Morgan. However, everything he has said about Meghan has come true, and he is entitled to his opinion. Unfortunately, she has tried to cancel him. In the past few weeks, he has won a case where he was found not guilty by Ofcom of breaching the regulator’s guidelines during his rant on Good Morning Britain back in March. Good on him!

While Ofcom didn’t like that he dismissed someone’s alleged struggles with their mental health, they did admit that he was entitled to his opinion on the subject. I’ll never like Piers, but he doesn’t deserve to be put on the cancel list for his views. There are others on live television across the world who have taken digs at the Sussexes. Two examples include Australian breakfast shows, Sunrise and Today. Both shows have had the hosts take swipes at Harry and Meghan. Even Sky News has done it.

Piers’ win should be telling people that we cannot stop voicing our opinions because someone cries that we’re horrible. While it is a victory, free speech still is not safe and nor will it ever be. As hard as that might be to hear, there will always be someone looking to tear it away. We, however, can still fight to maintain that everyone’s opinion is heard, not just those who think they matter more.

Hold A Close Circle

To end this post, I want to say is that it is important to hold a close circle of people you trust. Murky Meg has stressed this, and so have other people who are fighting for the factual truth. If you have a few good friends in your corner, keep them as close as possible. They will be able to assist if things go pear-shaped if you become the target of a smear campaign.

If you have evidence that someone is coming after you, be sure to report them before they can accuse you. If your circle have proof of someone trying to dox you, please, send the information to the support team of whichever social media website you’re on. Even if you can’t, keep the evidence in a safe place and be sure to block and report.

Protect yourself, but also protect those around you as well. If you have a strong support network, then you’ll have your bases covered.

If there is one person you feel you cannot totally trust, don’t include them in your inner circle. I know that sounds harsh but even the most trustworthy people can turn out to be not what they say.
