A Little Of Reese, A Little Of Gwynnie – OPINION

Gwyneth, Reese, Meghan

Meghan Markle has a stalker and copycat problem. She has become obsessed with copying A-list stars Reese Witherspoon and Gwyneth Paltrow and their respective brands. Gwyneth with Goop and Reese with her production company, Hello Sunshine. Royal News Network points this out on Twitter, and she is 100% correct.

Unlike Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, who believes his wife is a total saint, Reese and Gwyneth do everything they can to avoid her. Why? Because she is trying to shove her way into their circles without working for it. The actresses have worked their behinds off to get where they are today.

Meghan thinks Reese and Gwyneth have the winning formula for success and wants to take it herself. However, the actresses, both Academy Award winners, had to work exceptionally hard to get their brands off the ground.

Reese started Hello Sunshine during a career slump and has since produced and adapted several well-known novels into successful films and television series. Examples include:

  • Gone Girl (with Ben Affleck, Rosamund Pike and Neil Patrick Harris)
  • Wild (Reese played Cheryl Strayed)
  • The Morning Show (with Jennifer Anniston)
  • Little Fires Everywhere
  • Big Little Lies
  • Daisy Jones and the Six

Meanwhile, Meghan thought she could copy Gwyneth Paltrow’s success with Goop on The Tig. However, the Goop brand has substance because of its name. In an old article by USA Today, she explained why she chose the name for her brand that she did.

“Goop” comes from her initials G.P. A friend pointed out to Gwyneth that many successful online businesses have double Os. One example is Google. Goop has been a worldwide success.

The Tig has no meaning to anyone but Meghan Markle. I’m sorry, but The Royal News Network is correct; The Tig is a horrible name for a website, let alone a brand. Reese and Gwyneth succeed in their businesses because the name appeal to a broader audience, not just the person putting it together.

No one understands what The Tig means. Meghan says that The Tig represents the ‘ah-ha’ moment. She’s the only one who understands that. The rest of us are just confused. It’s not even that appealing to the audience she is trying to appeal to. Moreover, she has no idea how to market it. Also, I have every reason to believe she will relaunch her site, but only when the deals dry up, and she has to return to her influencer roots.

Another point I want to highlight is that Meghan’s desire to be a television producer like Reese will fall flat. Why?

Because Reese started as an executive producer and producer on some of her earlier films, she first held the E.P. position in 2003 on Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde. Her first producer credit came three years later, in 2006, on Penelope.

Meghan, meanwhile, never showed any interest in being a producer while she was an actor. Just because she has been an executive producer on Archetypes doesn’t mean crap. Podcasting is different to making a film or television series. Also, any sane person doesn’t need 30 people to produce a podcast. A film or television series is different as it has a lot more moving parts than podcasting does.

Andrew Gold said in an episode of his podcast that he didn’t make money in the first year. Also, the only other person involved with his podcast is his fiancée, who does the editing. He doesn’t have 30 people working on his podcast or a multi-million dollar deal with Spotify.

Meghan didn’t bother learning any other craft while on Suits. All she did was contribute ideas to her character’s wardrobe and asked to have fewer sex scenes. That’s it. However, her former co-stars, Gabriel Macht and Patrick J. Adams, were both producers and directors on the show. All Markle did was show up and strip off her clothes. She had no interest in writing the scripts for the show, directing or producing, and she never won acting awards.

Also, she thought that she would hit the jackpot by inviting Reese to her wedding. However, Reese was brilliant. She declined the invitation because she didn’t know them and is believed to have said, “Why would I go to someone’s wedding when I don’t know them?” However, we all know that George and Amal Clooney couldn’t resist the opportunity to rub shoulders with royalty. Only a handful of those famous guests should have been there.

Idris Elba knew Harry somehow as he was involved with the Prince’s Trust, which has helped him with his career. Also, Elton John was a friend of Diana’s. Also, the Beckhams were close friends to both William and Harry. Let’s not forget that David Beckham has wanted a knighthood for years, so he needs to stay in the good graces of the royals.

However, what the hell was Oprah doing there? She didn’t know them. How the hell does Harry or Meghan know Tom Hardy? Unless there’s something I’m missing. Many of the guests were there because Meghan wanted to network, not because they were friends.

In conclusion, Meghan’s thirst for fame is crumbling because she hasn’t got an original thought. The Tig was a D-grade publication that only people within the Suits fandom knew. Very few people watched the show, and the ratings faltered while Meghan was on the show. The only way I can see Megan getting the 3 million Instagram followers that she had, was through buying followers. It happens much more than people think.
