Stargirl: The OG JSA’s Children Was Not Something That Was Talked About

The OG JSA had to keep their children in the dark.

[CAUTION: This Post Contains Spoilers For Stargirl S02E02: Summer School: Chapter 2]

The week’s Stargirl gave us an origin for Jennie-Lynn Hayden, the daughter of Alan Scott. We also learn the OG JSA did not discuss their children while on the job. There is a couple of points we need to touch on in this post.

Point number one is who knew what. Our second point is whether previous plot points are contradictions.

Did The OG JSA Know About Each Other’s Children?

To begin, we need to clear up a comment Courtney makes to Pat regarding Jennie. After the confrontation that sees half the kitchen destroyed, Barbara allows their guest to use her daughter’s room while Courtney sleeps on the couch.

When Pat checks on her, Courtney asks how he knows Jennie is really Green Lantern’s daughter. He explains to her that the OG JSA didn’t talk about their families, let alone their children often as they had to keep them safe. So, it’s made clear here that the original team did know about the legacies.

Now, this is where the conversation could enter the contradictory territory. Last Season, Pat tells Courtney he didn’t know that Rex Tyler had a son. But now, he’s explaining he knew about some of the other children. So did he or didn’t he know about Rick?

Our guess is he didn’t know about Rick. Rex chose to keep him a secret, even from his friends. The original Hourman likely had more enemies than some of the other OG JSA.

Going back to Jennie, Alan told at least her about the OG JSA before his death. How else would she know about Starman and Stripesy? Also, he would’ve been more open about his job than others on the team.

One example of a person keeping their identity a secret is Sylvester. His number one enemy was his brother-in-law, Henry King Snr, who we know as Brainwave. It’s unknown if he knew about his nephew.

Given Pat’s reaction to learning that Brainwave had a son, he had no idea Henry existed. There are two scenarios for this. We’ve already addressed the first one. However, we jump on the second one which is Sylvester knew but never told his best friend.

Could The Unspoken Rule Of Protecting The Families Have Anything To Do What Happened To Rebecca McNider?

At the beginning of the premiere, we saw a flashback to decades earlier where a young girl is attacked by a boy named Bruce. This boy is possessed by a dark spirit [Eclipso]. While it isn’t confirmed, the girl is the daughter of Doctor Charles McNider, Beth’s predecessor.

This is hinted at when Rebecca’s mother says that the girl’s father was on call. Shawn McBee, a graphic designer on Stargirl and the host of the Stargirl Aftershow Podcast, implied this during the breakdown for the premiere. Also, we need to say that there is no reason that McNider’s voice changed due to recasting the character.
