Boldly Go Forth Into Star Trek 4

It’s an exciting time to be a Star Trek fan. Star Trek: Strange New Worlds begins in May, and we got another Trek announcement yesterday, courtesy of Maxance Vincent of Full Circle Cinema. The long-awaited Star Trek 4 in the Kelvin timeline is now official. After years of development hell and cancellations, the film is going ahead with the cast of the previous three. However, there will be one notable difference. Chekov.

As Trek fans will know, Anton Yelchin, the actor who portrayed Chekov in the previous films, died in a freak accident prior to the release of Star Trek Beyond in 2016.

Since the information is only fresh, there is no concrete intel as to how the situation with Chekov will be addressed. There is any number of situations they could potentially use. We’ll cover this in another post.

Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto will return to their iconic roles as James T. Kirk and Mister Spock, respectively. Zoe Saldana, John Cho, and Simon Pegg will also resume their roles as Uhura, Sulu, and Scotty in the film.

Moreover, Matt Shankman, known for his directorial role on Marvel Studios’ WandaVision, will be jumping into the director’s chair. Meanwhile, fellow Marvel crew member; screenwriter Geneva Robertson-Dworet will join Lindsay Beer to pen the story for the film.

There are so many avenues that this new film could take as the original Enterprise was destroyed in Star Trek Beyond. It was later rebuilt as the USS Enterprise-A. Also, the film established that Sulu was gay with a husband and young daughter while putting further fraction between Uhura and Spock to the point of them breaking up and then getting back together.

Star Trek 4 is scheduled to begin filming sometime this year for a premiere sometime in 2023.

Boldly go.
