It’s one thing to invite friends and family to your wedding, but a bunch of people you don’t actually know that well? Well, apparently one of Prince Harry’s godmothers uttered some no-so-famous words that is now making us question how well the Sussexes actually knew their wedding guests.
Prince Harry’s wedding to former American actress Meghan Markle was one of celebration. It bought together a lot of people from an assortment of backgrounds including some of Hollywood’s elite. Ahh.. we’re still scratching our heads on that one. According to 9Honey, one of the Duke of Sussex’s godmothers, Carolyn Bartholomew got up close and personal with George and Amal Clooney. As they got talking she asked the very simple question of how they knew the soon-to-be Sussexes. Their response? “We don’t!” Talk about not-so-famous words.
Okay, who invites people they don’t actually know that well to their wedding? Oh, right! One Rachel Meghan Markle, that’s who. So, why has Mrs Bartholomew’s not-so-famous words become an issue? Let us explain.
Meghan, The Duchess Of Social Climbing
How D-list actress, Meghan Markle ended up being friends with A-list tennis great Serena Williams and her husband is anyone’s guess. Sure, she developed connections while working in Hollywood, but how exactly did she and Harry score A-listers like the Clooneys and Idris Elba?
We can understand that Harry would introduce his then-fiancée to the likes of Elton John, David Furnish, and the Beckhams, but Oprah? How do either of them know her? It’s understandable that Meghan would want some of her former cast mates from Suits at the wedding, but total strangers?
If there was one wedding the Clooneys should have been invited to it should’ve been Princess Eugenie’s wedding. After all, her husband, Jack Brooksbank works for George’s liquor business.
Meghan probably just thought, “who can I invite to the wedding who can make me more famous? Oh! The Clooneys! Eugenie knows them. I want them at my wedding!” Okay, this probably didn’t happen. We’re just spit balling here.
Which Guests Would Harry And Meghan Have Known Personally?
Now, we need to ask which of their wedding guests outside of the royal family would Meghan and Harry have known personally. We’re also going to exclude Doria from this too given she is the Duchess’ mother.
Since there are so many names on the Wikipedia list of wedding guests we found, we’re only going to go over a few of them.
The Cast (And Crew) From Suits
Okay, so Meghan would’ve invited most of the cast and a couple of crew from Suits to the wedding. These include:
- Patrick J. Adams and his wife Troian Bellisario
- Abigail Spencer
- Rick Hoffman
- Sarah Rafferty
- Silver Tree (one of the directors)
- Gabriel Macht
- Gina Torres
The Mulroneys
Meghan would not have been able to say ‘no’ to inviting her BFF and her family.
- Jessica and Ben Mulroney
- John and Brian Mulroney
- Ivy Mulroney
We could go on, but we won’t as there’s just too many people.
Celebrities That Raise A Lot Of Questions
Bringing the conversation back around to Carolyn Bartholomew’s not-so famous words, we need to see which celebrities were there that raise questions. Here’s a few of the ones that made us go, ‘ahh… okay then….’:
Idris Elba
As you probably saw as you scrolled down this post, we included the one and only Idris Elba. The only thing we can think of as to why he would be invited to the wedding is that he’s also a DJ outside of being an actor. How else would Harry and Meghan know him? Perhaps he’s a rugby fan and/or he’s a patron of one of their charity endeavours?
Oprah
A big name that we did not expect to see at the Sussex wedding was media queen herself, Oprah. If Harry hates the media so much, why did he invite a big time media personality?
Tom Hardy
A surprising name on the list of guests was actor Tom Hardy. Is he a rugby fan? How else could Harry and Meghan know him?
George and Amal Clooney
We’ve already addressed the whole Clooney thing before so read above. After all, it was them the no-so-famous words were said to.
Our Thoughts
Want makes a story like this so fascinating is how this whole conversation came about. To think that Princess Diana’s former roommate was the one to question the Clooneys and how they knew the Sussexes. This only adds to our thoughts most of them were Meghan’s idea so she could claim to know a load of famous people.
