The House of Black is well-known in the world of Harry Potter for producing some pretty messed up witches and wizards. However, they’re not all bad, as seen with a couple of its members.
In this post, we’re going to explore some of the more famous members of the Black family.
Sirius Black
One of the most famous members of the Black family is Sirius Black. He was the first Black to be sorted into Gryffindor House and was the best friend of James Potter. He was the godfather of James’ son, Harry, and long after his death, was the partial namesake of Harry’s eldest son, James Sirius.
Sirius is one of the few sane members of his family. Another was his cousin, Andromeda.
Bellatrix Lestrange
In recent memory, one of the darkest members of the House of Black is Bellatrix Lestrange, a dark witch loyal to Lord Voldemort. Formerly Bellatrix Black, Bella was a Death Eater who was deeply devoted to Voldemort during both Wizarding Wars. She was married to Rodolphus Lestrange but did not love him.
She spent a large portion of her adult life in Azkaban for her role in the torture of Aurors Frank and Alice Longbottom. Bellatrix also gave birth to Voldemort’s daughter, Delphini, before the end of the war. She was killed by Molly Weasley when the dark wizard attempted to kill Mrs Weasley’s daughter, Ginny.
Narcissa Malfoy
A sister of Bellatrix Lestrange, Narcissa Malfoy followed her oldest sister in marrying a pure-blood, Lucius Malfoy, with whom she has a son, Draco.
Unlike her sister, husband and son, Narcissa is not a Death Eater. Though, she believes in the ideals of Voldemort. She later risks her own life for Harry Potter when she is unsure where Draco is during the Battle of Hogwarts.
Regulus Arcturus Black
The younger brother of Sirius, Regulus was a Death Eater until he realised what Voldemort was planning during the First Wizarding War. He stole the real Locket of Salazar Slytherin and replaced it with a fake. He gave it to the Black family House Elf Kreacher to destroy. Regulus was taken by Inferi.
Phineas Nigellus Black
One of the most hated Hogwarts Headmasters of all time, Phineas was despised by the Hogwarts students during the time he was at the school.
Andromeda Tonks
Like her cousin, Sirius, Andromeda Tonks (née Black) did not believe in her family’s blood purity obsession. She married a Muggle-born, Ted Tonks, and had a daughter with him, Nymphadora. She looked a lot like her older sister, Bellatrix, but was a brunette rather than having black hair. Though, she did not share any physical characteristics with her younger sister, Narcissa. Harry Potter almost attacked her when they met for the first time.
Andromeda would lose her husband, daughter and son-in-law, Remus Lupin, during the Second Wizarding War. She was given custody of her grandson, Teddy Lupin, whom she shared custody with Harry, his godfather.
