Want something that is filling for breakfast? Try our bacon, hashbrown, and cheese breakfast toastie!
Weekends are the perfect time to experiment with breakfast. That is why we thought this morning, we’d make a bacon, hashbrown, and cheese breakfast toastie. We’ve created it a couple of times, but this is the first time we’re sharing how we make it. The end result is this as seen on our Instagram:
Something bacon-related is usually accompanied by an egg but we’re not big egg eaters unless it’s scrambled or hard-boiled. That’s why there’s no egg in this toastie. So, there are a couple of ways you cook it. In the frypan or in a sandwich press. You can use a sandwich maker but there’s a bit more room in a press.
Whichever you do it, you still need the frypan. Before we start, we apologise for the awkwardness of the framing of the photos. We didn’t notice the sandwiches weren’t in the middle of the shot until we looked at the pictures later.
How To Make
So, we begin with pre-heating the pan. We have a gas stove so, it takes a few minutes to heat up. Not sure how it works with an electric stove.
Once the stove is preheated, throw in the bacon.
Meanwhile, heat up your sandwich press. Once it’s heated up, put in the hashbrowns. I discovered that it’s quicker to cook them in a sandwich press.
While both the bacon and the hashbrowns are cooking, be sure to get out your bread and butter it.
Grab your cheese and place it on the pieces of bread you want to be your base. We used Colby cheese but you can choose whatever cheese you like. One suggestion we have when it comes to cheese is to try to switch it up.
Going back to the bacon for a minute, we used two pieces but it is entirely up to you to how much you want to use. We try to limit our grease intake.
It might also take some time for the hashbrowns to cook. If you need to check them, use a butter knife or a fork to cut some away.
Begin your layering process. You should already have the bread buttered, and the cheese. Place a piece of bacon then place the hashbrown. If you’re using a second piece of bacon, place it on the top of the hashbrown. Uses any sauce you want. We used BBQ sauce. You can use Tomato (Ketchup to our American friends), or any form of relish as well.
Place the sandwiches into the press or the pan. If you’re using a frypan, turn the sandwiches over.
If using a sandwich press, you’ll know when the sandwich is cooked when the cheese starts oozing.
