Is Mary Elizabeth Winstead Playing Hera Syndulla In Ahsoka?

Hera

We’re getting closer to the drop of Ahsoka promo material even though the series has only just finished filming. In the meantime, however, we’re going to cover a casting announcement that is NOT 100% confirmed but is on the verge of being so. In the past day or so, several Star Wars sources, including Star Wars News Net and the Bespin Bulletin, are saying that Mary Elizabeth Winstead will be playing Hera Syndulla in the upcoming Ahsoka series. The actress has been linked to Ahsoka for a while, but her casting has not been officially announced.

Winstead’s involvement was confirmed by her husband, Ewan MacGregor, during press for his limited series, Obi-Wan Kenobi, earlier in the year. The first footage of Hera was seen at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in May during the Mando+ panel, but her face was not shown.

At the time, the Ahsoka series had only been filming for a couple of weeks. The only confirmed casting outside Rosario Dawson (Ahsoka Tano) is Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who will play Sabine Wren. Whether Mary will be Hera is anyone’s guess, but given that multiple sources have said this is true, who are we to judge? Several sources correctly predicted that Luke and Leia would be involved in Obi-Wan Kenobi.

We’ll go over Hayden Christensen’s apparent return in a different post. This is just the tip of the space iceberg.

Who Is Hera Syndulla?

Hera Syndulla is the daughter of Clone Wars freedom fighter Cham Syndulla. She was a renowned pilot who fought against the Empire as part of the growing rebellion. Hera also had a son, Jacen Syndulla, with her long-time human partner, Jedi Kanan Jarrus. Jacen was born after his father’s death and is half-Twi’lek, half-human. Finally, Hera fought during the Battle of Scarif and was also involved in the Battle of Endor.
