What Will Princess Charlotte’s Title Be In The Future?

Charlotte, titles

William and Catherine’s only daughter, Princess Charlotte, is shaping up to be her generation’s Princess Anne. Her great-aunt was the late Queen’s only daughter and had the title of Princess Royal, a lifelong moniker given to the eldest daughter of the current monarch.

While Princess Anne currently holds the title of Princess Royal, it has been speculated that Charlotte may end up with Prince Edward’s title of Duke of Edinburgh once he passes. According to Yahoo, this comes from Robert Jobson’s new book Our King, where he alleges that the only daughter of the Prince and Princess of Wales may not inherit her great-aunt’s title.

How accurate Jobson’s reporting in his book is unclear. To our understanding, when William becomes king, he will have the option, upon the death of his aunt, to bestow Charlotte with the title of Princess Royal. This is how it has gone for centuries. The last Princess Royal before Princess Anne was Princess Mary, the eldest daughter of George V and Queen Mary of Teck, in other words, the late Queen’s aunt.

Double Titles

Also, Princess Mary had two titles; Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood. If Jobson’s reporting is accurate, Charlotte could inherit two titles if William allows it. However, Anne and Edward would have to pass first.

The Duke of Edinburgh title may end up going to Prince Louis. However, there has been suggested that he might inherit the Duke of York title once Prince Andrew passes, as the second son usually gets it. However, Harry for Duke of Sussex as York was already taken.

Time may change things. Charles may not live long enough to see his grandchildren gain new titles outside of what they’ve already got. There is no way that the king or William would play favours between the Wales children. Favouritism wrecked Harry as he’s jealous his older brother got everything better than he did because he’s the heir.
